A Study Of The Channel Development After The Completion Of Artificial Cutoffs In The Middle Yangtze River

This paper describes the completion of two artificial cutoffs at the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and its anticipated comprehensive effects. On the basis of extensive field data, the present article also deals with such features of the river development after cutoff as the development of the pilot channel, the process of deposition of the old river bend, the scouring velocities of cohesive soils in the pilot channel, the distribution of discharge and sediment between the new and old channels, and the effects of the cutoffs on the upper and lower river stretches.
